3 weeks today

Tess is 3 weeks old today. Where does the time go? It's hard to believe it has been almost a month since she arrived. Although, seeing her with the other kids, it's like she has been here all along.

Teagan and "Baby guhl". He still doesn't call her Tess. Just baby girl, and "him". She is awake for longer periods now, looking around and making eye contact. She has smiled a couple times while awake, only to fart a minute later. So I guess it really is "just gas". And, she is sleeping for 5-6 hours at night, which is nice. We had a photographer come to the house this morning to take her pictures, so hopefully, in a couple weeks, we'll have some portraits to show off.
We're having a cookout for her in a couple weeks, so we're busy planning for that. Other than that, all is well.

Tess

Last days for the sprinkler park

The water is turned off after Labor Day, so I took the kids and Aunt Krista for one more trip to the water park. On a school night. It was Krista's idea. Because she doesn't have kids in school.

We took Krista's neighbor's daughter, Lillian. Tatum's doppleganger. You can't tell as well in this pic since Lillian was looking sideways and only half smiling, but they could pass for twins, or at least sisters. It was eerie looking back in the rearview and seeing Tatum's look alike.

They all had a good time, except for Travis and the vomit episode. Apparently, running around too much makes him throw up, which he did outside the bathroom door. Later, Krista noticed the 3 older kids wandering over to the bathroom. She said, "I wonder what they are doing". And I said, being the experienced Mom that I am, "I guarantee they are going to check out the puke." Yep, they really did.

Construction zone

They are redoing the main drag through town here. Unfortunately, we live on the main drag. And unfortunately, those sidewalks they're smashing and hauling off, we paid to replace just a few years ago. Looks like the polite thing to do, would have been to wait until they were ready to tear them up, then replace them anyway. Without sending me the bill.
At least Teagan was entertained while they were here. Oh, and I don't have to look at my neighbor's parking lot in front of my house. They're one of those neighbors. The ones who take up all the parking on the street because they have 15 people living in their house. Okay, 15 might be a slight exageration, but it's pretty close.

Tate's first day

Today is the first day of Kindergarten. I think this is the only time we have not had to force Tatum out of bed in the morning. Normally, she is not a morning person, at all. But, she jumped right up, got dressed, brushed her teeth, and ran downstairs to put her backpack on, before eating breakfast. She is pretty excited about school. I hope it lives up to her expectations. She picked out a new Hello Kitty backpack. Of course, Teagan thought he had to have one too. He asked last night, "Can I go to school, because I have a backpack?" And he still has that cute little 3 yr old voice that makes you want to say, of course, honey, whatever you want, just because you're so darn cute. He did wait for the bus with them, but now is busy playing his VSmile. We'll see how he makes it through the day. He'll either be glad to be alone, or he'll ask me a zillion times where Tatum is.

Yeah, so the Pan*era bagels that Wendy brought for me, uh, the directions say you can slice them, freeze them, then just pop them in the toaster. But, they forgot to mention that you can't do that with the cinnamon crunchy ones. Uh, because they'll burn. And not like, oops, I turned the toaster up too high and now my bagel is brown and crunchy, but like flames are shooting out of my toaster and now my kitchen smells like a campfire. And the crunchy part is the best part, darn it.

Tess had her 2 week check up yesterday. Their scale has her at 7 lbs 5 oz, which is 2 oz under her birth weight. I still say they don't have their scale calibrated right because she seems bigger than that. Of course, according to their weights, she did gain half a pound in two weeks so I guess that's not too shabby. She's still fitting in her newborn diapers. She has this terrible raw area in her fat creases, that the doc determined was a yeast infection, so I've got some cream for that. It looks painful and makes me feel horrible when I change her diaper and she cries. Hopefully, it will clear up quickly so we can transition over to her cloth diapers. Other than that, nothing too unusual. She looks like a 2 week old. She grew a whole 3/4 inch. I know, exciting, huh? Don't ask me where that puts her percentile wise, because I never pay attention to that. My last three kids have been on the lower end of the growth scale, so I don't sweat over it. I just accept that I have small kids.

Two weeks

To celebrate Tess's 2 week birthday, we took her to the boat races in Celina. She wasn't too impressed. Okay, it really wasn't for her benefit. It was for the boys and Daddy. Although, I have to admit, the formula 1 boat hitting speeds > 125 mph was pretty cool. Even Tatum was impressed with that one.

It was a long afternoon of boating with racing going on for about 5 hours. Luckily, there was food and inflatable fun to keep the kids entertained. And Tess spent most of the time asleep. Which was a big change from the day before. She had another "off" day on Saturday. She was just grumpy and irritable and slept very little unless she was connected to the boob or lying on Mom. My friend, Missy, came to visit and brought a yummy Cold Stone ice cream cake and some adult conversation. A welcome change. She said that Tess looks alot bigger. I can't really see it, being as, I'm with her all day, every day. But I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Her 2 week check up is in the morning.

Yesterday sucked

And not because I sent two of my spawn off to school. That was the highlight of the day. I caught a couple pics of Travis, but Tanner was already gone by the time I came downstairs, at 7:10 am!!! Middle school starts at 7:30. I don't even want to venture a guess as to what time his bus might go by, 6:45, maybe? That's insane. He's getting dropped off, because nobody here is getting up at 6 am! Even though Travis had been saying he wasn't excited about 2nd grade, he sure was eager to get out the door and wait for the school bus. And both mornings, he has hugged the bus driver. How can this kid seem so sweet, and yet, is a little booger at other times?
This morning, Teagan had to wait out there with him. Yes, Teagan was up at 6:30, AM! Anyway, back to my sucky yesterday, the two goblins left at home made it their mission to drive Mom insane. Even Tess got in on the action. She was miserable all day, which, of course, meant Mommy was miserable. She must have had a belly ache because she wouldn't sleep for more than 30 minutes at a time. I barely put her down all day, which means I just had to sit and stare at my messy house, which means I felt like a sloth for not accomplishing anything. Tatum and Teagan spent the entire day fighting and totally ignoring everything I said. I banished them to their room around 3 o'clock. That was short lived though, because THEY WEREN'T LISTENING! I finally got Tess to sleep for about 45 minutes at one point by faking her out with a pacifier Teagan found in the toy box. Not sure how old it is since Teagan is 3 1/2, and never used a pacifier. Hey, I washed it first. She gave me just enough time to have a mini nervous breakdown and unload the dishwasher.
Thank God those days don't come in pairs. Tuesday was a better day. I took the kids to the sprinkler park since it was the boys' last "free" day before school started. Aunt Krista met us there. Tess spent the whole time like this......
Yeah, don't ask me about the tongue thing. I don't know what that's about. Dreaming of booby milk? (Is it booby, or boobie? Anyway....)

This is Travis, who was not too keen on having his pic taken. And forget about seeing the oldest child, because he's just way too cool to have his picture taken. I swear, I really do have five kids.

The kids had fun, although Tatum and Teagan were not ready to go when it was time to leave. Because, of course, they. don't. listen.
So, Tuesday was good. Wednesday sucked. Thursday has been good. I hope there's not a theme going on here. This is how Tess has spent most of her day today, taking 3 hour naps. Hope this doesn't mean she'll be up all night. I kid you not, the entire day Tuesday, she was up for most of it, way up until almost midnight. I nursed her at 11:30, then I either slept through her feeding herself, or she actually slept until 6 am today. I woke her up at 8 to feed her, then she slept through Kindergarten screening, where I learned my daughter is brilliant (okay, maybe not, but she's ready for Kindergarten, dang it), then she slept through our trip to Meijer to pick out back packs. Tatum got a Hello Kitty pack, and Teagan insisted on a Cars backup, even though I tried to convince him that he doesn't need one. She even slept long enough for me to eat lunch without dropping crumbs on her.
My buddy Wendy, dropped by with her kids and some Pan*era bagels. Yum. Apparently, my boys aren't the only ones obsessed with Guitar Hero. They were my first non relative visitors since delivery. Luckily, it was a good day and I was dressed. Although, the house is a mess. I decided since I stressed so much yesterday about my messy house, I just wasn't going to care today. It's actually kind of a nice feeling.
Good, she's waking up now. Because she wiggled off the Boppy, and I looked at her. So my boobs hurt. Darn it. Ain't lactation great?

Ouch

I thought when the labor part was done, everything was supposed to feel better? I guess maybe making a 3 hr trip to the store for groceries and school supplies was a bit much 8 days post partum. At least, that's what my cramping uterus and hemorrhoids were telling me. Ugh! And that darn left butt cheek pain is back. Darn it. I guess I'll be calling the chiropractor back this week.
Tess slept through the store, in one of my new slings. After topping her off in the car before going in and changing her pants, twice. I swear, the girl knows when you put a clean diaper on her. She prefers a clean one to poop in. I kid you not. Change her diaper, and within 5-10 minutes, she'll be pooping. Oh, and it's time for belly shirts! Her cord stump fell off on Sunday. Too bad it's almost the end of summer. I guess she'll have to wait until she's 14 to exasperate me with her wardrobe choices. Bobby thinks she'll have an outie. I think right now, it's still an in-betweeny, but I'm sure it'll be an innie.
