Donut rebellion

So the day before yesterday was a bad day. Three days into the 30 day shred and 2 weeks into the FT I stepped on the scale. I know, not a great idea after working a 12 hour night shift, on 5 hours of sleep and with only 2 cups of coffee and very little water during that shift. But I did it. And I was up a pound and a half. Which pissed me off. I mean, really? What's the answer here? To lose weight, I have to what? Just not eat?

This is so frustrating. So Teagan's birthday was yesterday and I hit the donut shop before work to get him some birthday breakfast donuts. And then I ate one. Take that you bastard scale. I hate you.

Week 2 FT

Lost another pound and a half!!! Of course, I would have loved to lose the "up to 14 pounds" in two weeks the BFC Fast track book says you can lose but I really think that is for people who are eating a lot of crabs and sugar when they start the FT. My carbs and sugar were already pretty low besides cheat days so my diet didn't change a whole lot.  Can I say, I love Pinterest? I have found so many good recipes that work for the BFC and have started trying a few of them. Including this Easy Cheesy Zucchini bake from Kalyns Kitchen.

 
Also tried the easiest shrimp recipe ever. Yummo and super simple.



And while I think I might have cooked my version of Pizza-stuffed-chicken-breasts a little too long, and omitted the pepperoni (just because I didn't have any), it was still tasty. I think Dashing Dish may be my new favorite website. She has a ton of healthy recipes on her site, many of them low carb/low sugar/gluten free.

Never considered myself a big fan of brussel sprouts but cooked this way, so much better than I'm used to. The balsamic vinegar makes all the difference.


Can't wait to try some more new recipes. The BFC can get a little boring when you stick to eggs and turkey sausage for breakfast every day. And meat and salad, if you know what I mean.

I also started working out with Jillian again today. Working on the 30 day shred since I just realized I have all of 32 days before I go to Mexico with skinny ass Taira. Do you think it's possible to lose 10 pounds in 32 days? I would really like to not be heavier than I was last year when we went.

Now trying to figure out how to get through the Teagmeister's birthday without adding a pound or two.

Week 1 of FT

Only down a pound this week. I was doing pretty good, sticking to the Fast Track diet, and then along came the weekend. Complete with a wedding shower and a St. Patty's Day carry in.

I did avoid the cupcakes at the shower but might have had a few too many Sangrias and was not aware the strawberries I stuffed into my mouth were filled with cheesecake and not whip cream, until later. Woops.

After a carry in at work, my husband decided PF Changs was a good choice for dinner. Actually, it's always a great choice, except for my love of all things dumpling.

And who invented birthday cake Oreos anyway?? Evil bastards. On to next week.

Currently sipping on one of my green protein shakes. Tried it with vanilla muscle milk this time, plus cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice. Not quite as scrumptious as the PB/chocolate version but still good.

Holy yum!

Okay, so you all probably know there are some great recipes to be found on Pinterest.
I found the Green Smoothie recipe here.
And while I did find them to be yummy, they are made with spinach and fruit, specifically bananas, which are a no no on the BFC.


 Then I found this cool site which has a gazillion awesome variations for protein shakes. I mean, really, could this pic be scratch and sniff please?


So I decided to get a little creative and mix them up a bit. The protein shake works for my diet but I really liked the idea of adding spinach for a veggie punch. And if you've ever had a green smoothie, you know that the spinach only lends its green color. It is pretty flavorless.

Katie's recipe:


  • 1/2 Cup Cottage Cheese (or 1 Cup Reduced Fat Greek Yogurt).
  • 1 Scoop Protein Powder
  • 1-3 Packets of Splenda/ Stevia/Low Calorie Sweetener
  • 5-10 Ice Cubes
  • 1/2 Cup-1 Cup Water



  • The cottage cheese seemed a little weird, but hey, she says it works. I also didn't have any protein powder, or at least none that was 100 calorie per serving as recommended so I used light muscle milk, which caused me to leave out the water all together.

    So my version, all for less than 300 calories:

    1/2 cup cottage cheese
    8 oz light chocolate muscle milk
    1 packet Truvia
    10 ice cubes
    1 Tbsp natural peanut butter
    Handful of spinach

    = total yumminess

    No, not quite a peanut butter cup, but some chocolately peanutty goodness just the same. I didn't take a picture because if you take spinach, cottage cheese, chocolate and peanut butter and blend it all together, well, you can imagine the color it creates. I felt so full after drinking it, I don't know when I'll be ready for dinner.

    On track

    The fast track, that is. The BFC Fast track. Remember when I said I like simple? No counting, yada, yada? Welcome to the Fast Track. It's a 14 day period of typical BFC foods minus grains.

    I don't know if it was the ease of not counting carbs and sugars or the fast approach of the annual girls trip to Mexico that inspired this jump start. Maybe a little of both.

    The 4 day anti bloat diet I did before I went to Erie actually did seem to make a difference. I lost a couple pounds and felt really good in my perfectly slimming pants during my interview.

    Speaking of that interview, still waiting to hear back. I felt like it went well even if it was more laid back than a typical interview. Alot of hanging out, chit chatting and asking questions rather than a formal sit down interview. It's a place I feel like I could be happy in. One of the midwives said something that really stuck though. She said she didn't want me to take the first position that came along just because it is the first thing that came along. That got me thinking. I figured I should at least wait to hear back from the practice in Michigan and keep my eye on the job postings to see if anything felt right before saying yes, this is it, I'm going to wait to hear back from Erie and if I don't, I'll cry. Or something equally dramatic.

    The day after I came back I found an awesome opportunity with a home birth midwife in Indiana. I was so excited about it I almost cried (or something equally dramatic). I did send off a resume but have yet to get a response, even a yep, I got it. I also got a call from a practice in Illinois that wanted me to send another resume and fill out their hospital application. Did that and haven't heard anything. Sent off a couple more resumes, just for kicks. Oh, I sent one to a practice in West Virgina that I thought had been filled. The midwife called the next day and talked with me for half an hour. That was over a week ago. It's the waiting game that is annoying. Especially hearing about other new grads starting new CNM positions and knowing that there are more new grads coming out every month.

    I would just appreciate a nope, we decided to go with someone else, or hey, we're still interviewing, we'll keep you posted kind of thing, you know?

    Anyway, so that's what's up with me. My weight, but no new job news.
