My dad and stepmom were in town from Wyoming so we threw an impromptu family reunion in my backyard yesterday. We missed the folks who couldn't make it but were glad to chit chat with everyone who did. Lots of yummy food and conversation. I realized that I kind of suck though as a photographer. Not only did I not get pictures of everyone, but I didn't take any pics of my kids with their grandparents. Duh. Guess we'll have to take a trip to Wyoming sometime.
A Midwesterner and a Texan settling into life in the mountains of East Tennessee with a whole passel of kids. And the chaos that ensues....

A whole lot of birthdays
I managed to lose half a pound last week, even with my donut rebellion.
And then I gained it back this week. Was it the Easter candy and dessert or just PMS week?
Hard to say.
Anyway, I was going to post pictures of how I got smart for birthdays and realized when I uploaded my camera, that I hadn't posted pics of any of the boys birthdays.
Tanner turned 15 on February 16.
Cupcakes are semi smart because they are automatic portion control.
And I did eat only one.
Travis turned 12 on Februrary 26.
A very colorful wacky looking store bought cake is also semi smart because it doesn't necessarily look good enough to eat. At least not several pieces.
(And it's not because it was the least girly cake to be found at the local grocery at 7:30 in the morning on the day of my boys birthday because I sort of kind of forgot)
I think I actually only ate a bite or two of this one.
Teagan turned 7 on March 29.
And the smartest thing of all?
Taking the kids to the bakery so they can pick out their own cupcakes = no cake in the house!
You'll notice that only one kid actually picked a cupcake while two went for brownies, and the two oldest split that huge Devil Dog.
Even smarter? Eating them in the car on our way to Coco Key water park.
And these were all of the 3 pictures I got before my camera battery died.
Woops.

Big changes a coming
Maybe......
I'm heading to Pennsylvania in a few days for a big interview. I'm getting really excited and nervous, of course. I haven't met any of the midwives in person yet but just the emails and phone call that I've had with them makes me feel like this could be "the one". I had a phone interview with another practice in Michigan yesterday and while I felt pretty good about it when it was over, I'm not getting my hopes up. They are really looking for a local candidate so will interview a couple of them before they would even consider bringing me out for a face to face interview. Whereas the Pennsylvania practice is flying me out, putting me up in hotel, and have given me a complete itinerary for the day - meeting the providers, then the director of the perinatal unit, lunch with the office staff, docs and midwives, and tour of housing and the community by a local realtor. There are two midwives in the practice, one who wants to pick me up from the airport Sunday night, and the other who wants to pick me up for breakfast at the hotel Monday morning. I feel wanted. :o) But also incredibly worried that I will say something stupid. Or that they will ask me a clinical question and I will have forgotten everything I learned in the last three years.
Anyway, that leaves me with just a few days to feel good about myself physically and to find something nice and professional to wear. While I plan to stick with Jorge and the BFC, I'm going to give myself a jump start by following the Flat Belly Diets four day anti-bloat menu plan. I just don't want to feel blah when I get to Pennsylvania and I think eliminating some poochy belly foods will help. So that's my plan..... Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Well, that and a trip to Kohl's.

The Big T
The first born, the eldest son, the practice model
Turns 15 today
Who took my baby boy and replaced him with this moody, goofy, hairy teen?

Happy Birthday Big Sis!
Today is my big sister's birthday.
Krista is the big 4-0 today, which sadly, is not a good thing, because I'm not that much younger than her.
Despite this major milestone, she will not be hitting the clubs or bar hopping with her girlfriends.
She'll be chilling with her favorite girl.
Krista, I couldn't give you any better gift than the one you rock to sleep.
(Which means you're getting nothing).

Proof
After three long years and a whole lot of money, I am no longer a graduate student
and officially a certified nurse midwife.
With the pictures to prove it.
Now to find a job before the student loans come due.

Happy New Year! (Again)
Welcome to the Year of the Dragon!
Heading out for our Chinese New Year's dinner
It takes a few tries with this group to get everyone to look at the camera.
The girls are wearing their authentic Chinese silk dresses purchased in Nanchang.
Mia ate her weight in noodles
While Tess went for 3 bowls of rice.
After completely stuffing ourselves full of Chinese food, we headed home to start our new New Year's diets.

Happy birthday to me!
A day late, but whatever.
Made these. Loved them.
Even the next morning, cold, out of the fridge, with no icing.
Awesome
